I first stood as a Borough Councillor in a 2010 by-election and won the seat from an Independent candidate. I am pleased to say that I have been able to increase my majority at every election since.
I have lived in Wrea Green for all of my married life some 46 years; our children grew up here, attended the local school and sung in the church choir. I am a member of the St Nicholas Church PCC and was Building Chairman for some years when the Community Centre was built. Between 2012-2016 I was the national chairman of a naval charity and led a small committee to erect a service memorial in the National Memorial Arboretum (NMA) at Alrewas. HRH The Duke of Wessex attended the resultant dedication service.
During my working life I served in the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (34 years) and in the Strategic Health Authority for 3 years.
As a Fylde Borough Councillor I regularly deal with concerns about traffic and its increased density as a result of residential development. I have encouraged Lancashire County Council to conduct a public survey on speed limits and improve the safety at the roundabout in the centre of Wrea Green. I have also been involved in resolving flooding issues and I have continued to work with the residents in my dealings with LCC, Environment Agency and United Utilities.
I have enjoyed being a councillor and find it both interesting and rewarding – it’s really good when you can make a difference!
